At the Foot of the Great Oak - Volume 2 The Moment of Truth

Description

Laurentian Valley, 1757

Intolerance still reigns in Sainte-Anne-de-Pointcarré while bad luck seems to be relentless against Nicolas and Marie-Angélique Delavoye. After suffering a virulent attack, the poor shoemaker once again sees his wife exposed to the slander of those around her following a despicable attack on her dignity.

Fortunately, the wind eventually turns, allowing the newlyweds to pursue their dream of a calm and serene life, close to the great oak tree where they used to meet. Their respite will be short-lived, however, as rumors of an imminent war circulate on the banks of the St. Lawrence. The call to arms of able-bodied men will leave the women to fend for themselves, some soon finding themselves reduced to starvation.

The moment of truth has now come, and Marie-Angélique surprises with her determination and courage. Will she be able to ensure the future of her family, who are suffering from the raging conflict?
