Description
Arriving at the Price Brothers logging camp after a long and difficult journey, the L'Heureux family were devastated. The place where they would live and cook for hundreds of lumberjacks over the next seven months had been completely ransacked. To make matters worse, Philippe, the second youngest of the siblings, had caught a cold, and his mother's efforts were not enough to calm the fever and cough that were assailing him.
Concerned about her brother's health, Pauline, the eldest, visits a caregiver living near the camp. She is immediately captivated by the extraordinary knowledge of this caring lady and by the care given to the young convalescent, and now aspires to follow in her footsteps. This is how the teenager will be taken under the wing of the woman who is at once a midwife, herbalist and ramancheuse, who will teach her her art.
But the love she thinks she feels for a boy from the construction site and her desire to get married soon interfere with her training. Will Pauline have to give up a part of herself and make a heartbreaking choice in order to take the path that is meant for her?
