To the rhythm of the years

Description

Born just at the turn of the century, Simone Fortin has finally reached an acceptable age to go out and be courted. However, the teenager is more interested in current events and politics than in boys. So, free of all expectations, she goes to this dance party in the basement of her parish church. Charmed by the catchy tunes of the orchestra, the beautiful factory worker spends hours dancing. In her little notebook, she writes down one by one the names of the suitors who invite her onto the dance floor. But none of these gentlemen possess a wit sharp enough to steal her heart...

As the years pass, Simone's single life becomes increasingly inappropriate. She is accused of being frivolous or brazenly difficult, or both. Then, the Saint Sauveur neighborhood and its residents face a series of crises. In the modest apartment she shares with her family, Simone is not immune to misfortune. Soon, the arrival of Jean-Pierre, who stands out from other men for his thirst for knowledge, makes her want to believe in true love. Will she conform to society by closing ranks or will she continue to lead her life as she sees fit?
