Quebec, 1764
A soldier in the English army in the recently conquered New France, Alexander Macdonald cannot possibly remain with Isabelle, the French Canadian woman he loves so much. The twists and turns of fate have ensured that, despite their passionate feelings for each other, everything cruelly and inexorably divides them.
