New France, 1689
After his revenge slipped through his fingers, just as he was about to strike down the man who killed his brother, Akian agrees to lead Jeanne-Geneviève to her brothers' home; after all, war has been declared between France and England, and the New World is suffering the consequences of the hostilities, which are now extending here.
However, it quickly becomes apparent that a more important quest must be undertaken: by mutual agreement, Akian and Jeanne-Geneviève, after a winter with the Abenaki, decide to instead take the road to Albany, where Alouki is imprisoned, to free her. Out of honor, Akian joins the ranks of his people alongside the French and Canadians to defend New France, unaware that these battles will lead him to reflect on his duty and his oath, but also on the anger he harbors toward Pierre Le Moyne ever since he prevented him from defeating Hakenaton, the terrible Iroquois chief.
A true adventure novel, Entre le lys et lion takes the reader to both the Canadian side, with the Le Moyne siblings, and Akian's side, with the First Nations. Ending with the failed English assault on Quebec, this action-packed text highlights military strategy, vast open spaces, but also the deep emotions that only great dramas can exacerbate.
