Here we are again in the heart of Quebec City, in the aftermath of the First World War, where our two heroes, Ovila the journalist and Hubert the churchwarden, continue to recount, in their respective personal journals, a daily life rich in controversial themes: feminism, women's suffrage, recognition of homosexuality, emancipation from religion, technological innovations… The specter of the Second World War also looms, casting its menacing shadow over the Old Capital. Clémence struggles to be recognized as a fully-fledged doctor in a patriarchal society, while Léonard is confined to an asylum for his so-called "unnatural" morals… Despite hardship and uncertainty, illness and misfortune, the love that binds the Bédard family triumphs once more in this vivid portrait of the grand and everyday history of Quebec City, through the intimate story of an endearing and colourful family.
