He could already see himself! : Aznavour and Quebec

Description

In November 1948, a 24-year-old French artist arrived in Montreal. His name was Charles Aznavour. Encouraged by Édith Piaf, he came with his faithful companion Pierre Roche, hoping to fulfill one of his many engagements. While he was largely ignored in his native France, he experienced a true love affair with Quebec audiences. This unlikely love story is recounted by journalist Mario Girard. From the legendary cabaret Au Faisan Doré, where he enjoyed his first real triumph, to his final performance shortly before his death in 2018, Charles Aznavour remains the international artist who performed the most shows in this part of North America. This captivating account reveals the deep friendships he developed with Jacques Normand, Félix Leclerc, Raymond Lévesque, Serge Deyglun, Monique Leyrac, Denise Filiatrault, Dominique Michel, Robert Charlebois, Diane Dufresne, Lynda Lemay, and so many others. "I arrived here as a 'damned Frenchman,' but very quickly, I became almost a Quebecer," he once said with great pride.
