In 1938 Vienna, Sophie lives in fear of Nazi persecution. When her Jewish father is killed before her eyes by a mad mob and her mother is imprisoned, she realizes that to survive, she must urgently flee. Sophie accepts a position as a librarian in England, at Windsor Castle, where the young Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret live. In exchange, in the greatest secrecy, she will have to intercept compromising letters written by the king's brother, suspected of harboring guilty sympathies with the Nazi regime. Behind the high walls, Sophie gradually discovers that a sinister plot is at work and that, to protect and save Princess Elizabeth, the future Queen of England, she will have to be ready for any sacrifice...
