The snuffer

Description

Saint-Glaise, Quebec, 1849

Determined to have a school built in her village, Aurélie Jalibert, a young widowed teacher, is convinced that the future lies in knowledge. Her father, Euzèbe Jalibert, defends education laws and the new taxes that fund them, thus stoking Victor Guillebout's anger and causing a major conflict to erupt. Aurélie's world is turned upside down by the arrival of Jack Taillon, a charming and rather mysterious worker. Fleeing a family tragedy he wishes to hide at all costs, Jack finds refuge in Saint-Glaise and work alongside the teacher. As intimate feelings develop between them, the village sinks into discord. Soon, a brutal murder transforms the disagreement into a criminal case that Captain Jules Potvin, called in as backup, is tasked with solving. Between the escalating attacks, incendiary rumors, and family secrets, tensions intensify. Can Jack and Aurélie's budding love survive in this endless quarrel, where justice and passion clash?
