Rose and François secretly love each other, even though a gulf separates them. One day, the apprentice carpenter learns that candidates are being sought to fish for lobster on Saint-Paul Island, in the southern seas. It's the perfect opportunity to set off with his sweetheart, far from the taboos that stand between them. The couple therefore enlists as laborers and sets sail for this distant land, rich in promise. At the end of the campaign, a few settlers, including Rose and François, agree to extend their stay to maintain the facilities during the winter. Alone and forgotten, they will see this land at the end of the world reshuffle the cards of their destiny...
