Gaspésie, 1954
When Richard Sullivan parks his dusty van in front of the market garden she runs with her husband, Laureen Boudreau is delighted to meet the painter she met the day before in the village, to whom she had praised the beauty of a nearby waterfall. En route to this hidden paradise, their feelings quickly blossom.
The turmoil of this forbidden passion soon adds to the torture of saying goodbye. For the young woman refuses to turn her back on her husband and three children for good. It is with a gaze clouded by heartbreak that she watches Richard disappear into the setting sun.
While Laureen tries to lead a normal life with her family, the memory of her lover becomes persistent. The enthusiasm she once brought to housework is waning. The smile she once so generously shared is fading. But then an unexpected event brings her a little comfort...
Constantly tortured by a fate that is determined to keep her away from her beautiful love, Laureen will have to arm herself with patience and hope. Will Richard ever return?
