Certain newspapers lash out against Jews, proposing to restrict their civil liberties. Nevertheless, life continues in Paris. Ophélie gives her heart to Charles: a marriage is announced between the Canadian and the Frenchman. Théo, for his part, no longer introduces Hedwig as his German teacher, but as his lover. Despite these troubled times, trips to the cinema, restaurant, and museum are still part of young couples' daily lives. Then comes the war. Worried sick about Charles, who has gone to battle, Ophélie decides to take her mind off things by helping refugees. Théo, for his part, tries to shelter compatriots across the Channel. Faced with the peril threatening the City of Light, power and social rank are no longer enough to offer a lifeline....
